For childbirth simulation using the delivery shorts, it is necessary to have a baby with a placenta.

This baby is a commercial doll — available in toy stores — with a crocheted placenta.

Construction

Materials

• Baby doll (available in toy stores)
• Large snap button
• Thick knitting yarn (in red and blue)
• Large crochet hook, number 6 or 8

Instructions

1. Doll with a cloth body and hard plastic head and limbs.

2. Doll ready to assemble the simulator.

3. The material for the placenta is thick knitting yarn. The cord is made with chain stitch. The placenta itself is made with single crochet stitches. Everything is made with a large crochet hook — number 6 or 8.

4.  The placenta is attached to the baby by a large snap button, sewn onto the doll’s belly and onto the end of the “umbilical cord.”

5. The baby with placenta is ready for use.
