Perineal Suture
Perineal Suture
Perineal tears can occur after vaginal delivery. Proper care of these lacerations is important for a good recovery. Not every laceration has to be sutured – access the review by MA Alharmeel et al on this topic here.
It is important to know the grades of laceration and other methods for classifying perineal lacerations and their healing, such as the REEDA scale.
It is well established that the best technique for suturing perineal lacerations is with continuous stitches in all layers. Access Kettle’s review of this here.
Therefore, it is important to train the suturing technique.
For professionals who are starting to attend births and also for those who have been assisting for a longer time, but use other suturing techniques.
This simulator is simple, requiring a block of material to simulate the layers. A foam block, such as a wide sponge, will do. sticking a different tissue to simulate the skin, helps to differentiate the structures. In the presented model, the main muscle bundles – superficial transversus perineum and bulbospongiosus were also drawn.
Many simulators are suggested with the use of the ox tongue.
Another possibility is the use of chicken breast, preferably with skin. Fitted with simple elastic bands in the packaging in which it is sold.
