Delivery shorts

Short – Childbirth Simulator

There are numerous birthing simulators on the market. All of them allow you to visualize the delivery mechanism and simulate delivery care and training to resolve dystocia. However, some models have limitations for deliveries in positions other than the gynecological one.

Models that allow a student or actor to experience childbirth in the parturient role exist, but they are quite expensive in Brazil.

Model goals:

  • Training of skills and attitudes related to normal birth care
  • Training skills and attitudes related to the resolution of dystocia and obstetric complications.
  • Discussion of care models, communication skills, parturient sensations.
  • Presentation and simulation in different environments – schools, groups of pregnant women.

Required Material:

  • A large pair of Lycra shorts or similar
  • A scissor
  • Sewing machine (desirable but not mandatory).
  • A baby doll (any doll can be used, we recommend the existing simulators, because it already has a cord and placenta that allow you to simulate a circular cord and etc., but they can be “baby” type dolls from toy stores).

How to make

Well, by this point in the post you’ve figured it out.

  • Make a cut in the shorts of approximately 7 cm. The cut is on the front side of the seams. (Advice – for the first model, do it with knitted pants or old shorts, to test it out).

Test to see if the chosen doll “passes” through the hole.

Sew a zigzag stitch along the entire edge of the “vaginal canal”.
