External Cephalic Version Training

When a baby is breech (sitting) close to delivery, one maneuver that can be performed is the external cephalic version. The external cephalic version consists of turning the baby with manual maneuvers, through the mother’s belly.

The maneuver requires care and knowledge and must be performed in a hospital environment.

This model can be used to train external cephalic version.

Material

  • 1 fetus doll
  • Detergent
  • String
  • Party baloon

material – doll, large party balloon, string, detergent

Instructions

The doll has foam inside. If what you have is like this older one, remove all the foam from the head and torso before starting – long tweezers may be needed.

If it is not possible to remove the doll’s head (in the most recent models) seal the “umbilical scar” and the mouth with modeling clay or hot glue.

Tie the doll in the desired position. It gets easier in “full pelvic”.

Tied doll – complete pelvic.

Now the biggest challenge – getting the doll inside the balloon. Note, it’s one of those giant balloons, used to make Pinata at children’s parties.

Put a little detergent on the doll to make it easier to get in (a little, if not too much foam will form and interfere with the simulation).

Add water and close the balloon.

Its ready!

Let’s make the version!
